Detox in the New Year

by Heather Ferber on January 1, 2012

Happy New Year to all my loyal readers! Wishing you the happiest, healthiest New Year ever.  As I write this post, many of you are probably still in bed recovering from the festivities of last night or the last week or the last year for that matter.  But it’s time to jump out of bed and celebrate the birth of a new year which brings us thee opportunity to reflect on the past and decide what we are going to do to improve our futures.

The New Year is the perfect opportunity to move out the old and ring in the new….and that can be applied to your body as well.  Now is the time to consider a New Year’s Cleanse to clean your body of all its toxins and allow for your system to rejuvenate and heal itself.  The toxins that accumulate in our body are a result of our metabolism (especially from processed foods) as well as thee environment around us.  There are many benefits to cleansing: it improves our immune system; eliminates free radicals and toxins; strengthens our body against potential cancer cells; generates new, healthy cells; helps calm inflammation in our digestive tract; purifies our blood; and helps to balance our pH (make us more alkaline instead of acidic).  After a good cleansing, you can anticipate feeling so much more energetic and alive!

There are thousands of cleanse options out there.  To make the cleansing concept very basic and easy to understand, it frequently involves eliminating soda (or any processed beverage), coffee, alcohol, dairy, gluten, and the white poisons (white flour, white sugar, pasta) for a period of time and then reintroducing them (if desired), one at a time, looking for certain reactions once these ingredients are re-introduced.  Again, there are so many variations on the cleanse concept – knowing your body and your current diet and state of health can help you to determine which cleanse may be best for you.

The Feb 2012 issue of Whole Living has a very basic cleanse program which would be a great resource for those of you looking for some place to start.  Some details are also posted on their webpage at www.wholeliving.com. And I can help you too.  Better Health By Heather is officially opening for business in 2012!  You can view preliminary details and information at www.betterhealthbyheather.com and I will be sharing more information regarding my business venture with you very soon.

May 2012 be your healthiest year yet!  And don’t hesitate to seek help where it is needed.
