The Good Harvest – Area CSA Farms

by Heather Ferber on June 15, 2011

Have had a few inquiries lately from friends regarding CSA Farms in Southeastern Wisconsin so I thought I’d share this info with all my readers.  First off, some of you are probably wondering what the heck a “CSA” is.  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and at their most fundamental level, CSA farms provide a weekly delivery of sustainably grown produce to consumers during the growing season (approximately June to October). Those consumers, in turn, pay a subscription fee/member fee.  Membership arrangements vary from farm to farm.

Most of the CSA farms offer a wide variety of seasonal vegetables. Some farms offer unusual varieties while others may add extras to their standard shares. Some farms may give members the option to buy honey, fruit, flowers, eggs, wool/yarn, meat or other specialties at an additional cost.  Some farms may also offer winter deliveries/pick-ups.  Depending on the size of the delivery/pick-up, I know some families that split/share their weekly stock.  Be creative.

Wondering if any of my readers have any CSA experience…please share!

How nice of you to put together a post of CSA’s in your area. I wish I would’ve known about the world of blogging back then. I wrote a post last year about the benefits of CSA that might be of interest.

Hi Tammy – thanks for sharing your link to your past post. Read a bit about you. One of the motivating factors in me starting this blog is my quest to complete an Ironman 70.3 and my dear gfriend, who is only 34, who has breast cancer. The world of GREAT nutrition is just not stressed enough in modern day medicine here in the U.S. There is so much we can all do to prevent disease, not just treat it.
